"I did not know what California was either, but papas eyes sparkled whenever he talked about it with mama and his friends." Pg.1

It guess it would have to do with what the journey was coming to America they had to deal with a lot of anxiety and excitement. By anxiety I mean they have to wait the whole journey wondering how their new lives would be in America. And for the excitement I think it effects the journey because it make the journey more tough and longer because they cant get their mind off of it.

Do you think Francisco understands why his dad is getting all worked up about California?

"We traveled for two days and nights. During the night, we didn't get much sleep. The wooden seats were hard, and the train made loud noises, blowing its whistle and grinding it's brakes."

It guess it would have to do with what the journey was coming to America because it describes how their journey took two days and nights. It was hard for them because they had very little sleep because the woolden seats were unconformable. the whistling and braking didn't help them either I know i wouldn't be able to fall asleep with that noise.

How do you think you would have felt in this predicament and why?

1. I liked the quote that you chose. I could relate to this quote because if I ever think about traveling to somewhere else in the world, I'd think about and love to want to go there.

1A: I think that the dad is getting all worked up because they make California seem like it's a great place to be rather than where they are now. The dad shows Francisco how good California sounds.

2. Their journey seemed really difficult and hard. It also seemed long but I think that in the end it would be all worth it.

2A: I can't imagine myself traveling for 2 days just to reach to a new destination, especially when I'm in a uncomfortable position. I would've complained a lot and just wanted to be there already.

The quote that you chosed really described what was going on in the book. It explained how the father was so excited to finally get the opportunity to move and resettle.

I don't think Francisco quite understands why his dad is happy about going to California. I think he doesn't really know what it's like there but since his dads getting so excited about it then he might have an idea that it is a good place. So I think it can kind of go both ways as to whether he knows or not.

This quote is a good quote because it sets the setting of the story and also how they felt being in America. It shows that the characters are on a train and that it is an unpleasant ride on the train.

If I were in this predicament, I think I would have not tried to focus that hard on how bad the trip was. I would take into consideration that that was all my parents could afford at the time and I need to be thankful about it. Also, I would try to get as much sleep as I could even though it was a bad ride.
