From Haven to Home
I feel that the purpose of this field trip was so that we would learn how immigrants shaped our country mostly Jewish. I think that they shaped our country though their jobs that they had. The Jews ran many jobs for instants one of the Jewish immigrants created the Barbie. Some of them ran in the military but unfortunately when they wanted to join the army to fight for our country they had to pay. They also started Las Vegas to be the sin city it is today. unfortunately they weren't allowed in certain states like Tennessee and Kentucky because of some one of their generals. When they felt like some thing was unfair they fought for what they believed in for example when the price on regular meat was nine cents the price for the kosher meat was eighteen cents. Compared to now thats not a lot of money but back then that was a lot so the Jewish women of the communities gathered together and protested twenty thousand women. They got to the point to where they were were taking the meat and burning it in the street in front of the store. So after a long but hard wait the butchers finally lowered the price of kosher meat to four teen cents it wasn't no nine cents but they settled for the four teen cent kosher meat. Through out their lives they've always struggled for what was right. For example Leo Frank was charged for murdering a fifteen year old girl. Even the students struggled ,the struggled with soviet Jewry. The Jews were eventually able to create their own kosher cook book and create their own cherry wine. Around that time they began coming out in big theatrical hits such as Funny Girl and Funny Lady.
Children of Immigrants
The photograph that I choose was Berenice Baudill, by sixteen year old Arturo. In the photo you can see a fist of empowerment. In the picture the fist is holding a blue ribbon that says las mujeres de juarez presente. In his other pictures the girls were painting this picture and several others. I choose this picture because its different then other pictures for example its the only picture that isn't of a person it just of a painting.
The quote that I choose was called From Between Cultures and its by Denis Tuzinova from Bosnia the quote is “If we stay in this Bosnia we would have probably been killed although no one can predict the future, just imagine a seven year old child wondering if he would be killed the next day or spared in this world we call home”i picked this quote because in its telling the brutal truth about how the would is and hes not afraid of saying what he think about the world and thats what I like about it. And how he just voices are opinion without hesitation.
